wardengrey:

I finally got around to reading the fourth and final volume of Hawkeye and I’m so emotional. The chapter where you see in Clint’s perspective as he goes from Hard of Hearing to actually deaf and using ASL is so legit, it hit so close to home for me.
They portray how hard it is to understand people so perfectly, I can’t believe how spot on it is. Whenever people ask me about what it’s like to be HoH I always say it’s like someone is playing with volume on a radio, you miss parts of a sentence and it just sounds like gibberish and you need to guess and piece together what people say. It’s portrayed so well with all the question marks, the brackets showing the constant uncertainty even when you’re focusing.

That top right panel, where the word balloon is blank, and then in the next panel it’s only when Clint can see Barney’s mouth move that he can understand what he’s saying. That was such a brilliant move on the writers end I can’t stop emphasizing how clever this is.

Awww man and the artwork with the sign language!! The art is so great that you can get a good idea of the overall message, but the unapologetic ASL is the best. No translations. You can hear the author telling you “Google it, I don’t need to cater to you right now.” and I am living for it. HoH people and Deaf people bend backwards to properly communicate, it’s kinda nice that for once someone else has to pick up the slack.

I’m going to stop gushing now. In summary: go read Hawkeye by Matt Fraction. From start to finish it was so damn good, I’m so sad to see it go.
