sweetschizo:

We need to redefine recovery from “becoming neurotypical” to “learning to live a good life with a mental illness” cause in many cases the chase for the first gets in the way of the second.

Recovery doesn’t always mean “doesn’t have a mental illness anymore” – it can also mean:

  • Learning to cope with your symptoms in a healthy and constructive way.
  • Getting the accommodations and support that allows you to live with the impairments of your mental illness.
  • Learning to live a happy, fulfilling life despite your symptoms.
  • Knowing your limits and triggers and adjusting your life accordingly.
  • Learning to take care of your physical, mental and emotional health.
  • Learning to live with symptoms without having them control your life.
  • Finding and sticking to treatments that work for you.
  • Accepting and learning that even though you may not be able to live a “normal” life, you can still have a good life.

Many of us can’t expect the full recovery that we are told to strive towards, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t get better or that we shouldn’t work towards getting better, and it’s important that the language around mental illness and recovery reflects that.

SERVICE DOG PSA

So today I tripped. Fell flat on my face, it was awful but ultimately harmless. My service dog, however, is trained to go get an adult if I have a seizure, and he assumed this was a seizure (were training him to do more to care for me, but we didn’t learn I had epilepsy until a year after we got him)

I went after him after I had dusten off my jeans and my ego, and I found him trying to get the attention of a very annoyed woman. She was swatting him away and telling him to go away. So I feel like I need to make this heads up

If a service dog without a person approaches you, it means the person is down and in need of help

Don’t get scared, don’t get annoyed, follow the dog! If it had been an emergency situation, I could have vomited and choked, I could have hit my head, I could have had so many things happen to me. We’re going to update his training so if the first person doesn’t cooperate, he moves on, but seriously guys. If what’s-his-face could understand that lassie wanted him to go to the well, you can figure out that a dog in a vest proclaiming it a service dog wants you to follow him

WTF is this for real?

Yes – https://www.costco.com/benefits.html

See, what the race-to-the-bottom people forget is one simple fact:

The average cost to replace a minimum-wage retail employee, according to a study by the Center for American Progress, is $3,328. And that’s a lowball. Basically, any time somebody quits or is fired, it costs the company money. A lot of money. New employees are also less productive (because it takes people longer to do things they are less familiar with). Employee churn is very expensive.

The Wal-Mart (and Amazon) model is to consider employees as expendable robots. They completely dismiss the costs of hiring, onboarding, training, reduced productivity during the training period, etc, because “these people are cheap.”

Costco treats employees as “appreciating assets” – that is to say, employees become more valuable over time. Therefore, it is better and more productive to only replace employees who aren’t doing their jobs.

Let’s take a warehouse worker in a large facility. A new worker will waste time remembering which aisle it is, may take a longer route there, etc. Somebody who has been there a year has it down cold. They’ll pick the item far quicker than the new person. This improves productivity, which improves profits.

But for some reason a lot of companies don’t seem to grasp this.

All they see is the paycheck, when the actual figure they should be looking at is the profit a worker produces. That is to say, the difference between productivity and pay. Raising pay causes people to stick around and become more productive, which actually increases the profit in the long term.

We need to stop thinking so short term.

geekandmisandry:

Jealousy is super romanticised in media and it’s really creepy, damaging and needs to stop. It’s really not cute to have a relationship so full of distrust that you have to check their phone, computer, emails and get defensive if anyone being near them. It is not normal or healthy to think your boyfriend should punch another man if he hits on you and honestly it has an effect on people and their expectations within a relationship.

Hey so friendly reminder about voting and elections that I haven’t seen going around yet but is SUPER IMPORTANT.

Watch what you wear and say while you’re waiting in line for the voting booth/at the polls. It is against federal law to do anything that might be considered campaigning once you’re there, and since we know that voter suppression is the name of the game this election, there will be people looking for ANY reason to remove you from the polling place. And they will nitpick. You have a shirt with a artistic picture of donkey on it? You’re visibly supporting the Democrats, you’re disqualified from voting. Want to wear a Black Lives Matter shirt? Not there you don’t. They’ll call it intimidation and kick you out. Pins, buttons, stickers, none of it. Wear the most bland, plain clothes you can imagine.

And then keep your mouth shut. Even the slightest hint of discussion about which candidate you’re voting for can get used against you. Don’t assume the people around you are safe to discuss it with. You might be overheard. There WILL people watching for these things, hoping to get rid of anyone they can. Voter suppression isn’t just about making registration impossible. It happens at the polling stations too. Be smart, be bland, be quiet, and make sure your vote gets in.

Also- and I have seen this mentioned but it bears repeating- DO NOT TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR BALLOT. EVER. It’ll also disqualify your vote. Take a selfie when you’re out of their with your fun little sticker.

action:

Hey, U.S. Tumblrs. Your country needs you.

In just about six weeks, on November 6, you will have the privilege of exercising your right to vote in the midterm elections. You, the people, will determine one-third of all U.S. senators and all 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. And we want you to feel empowered as hell as you make it happen.

But you can only make a difference if you’re registered to vote.

National Voter Registration Day is on September 26.

Take a few minutes right now and visit NVRD (@nationalvoterregistrationday) to register anytime between now and then. Don’t forget: if you’ve recently changed your name or moved across state lines, you need to update your registration. Have questions? @plannedparenthood wants to help! This Monday, September 24, they will be answering your questions about voting. Go ahead and head over to their ask box now.

What else can you do?

Stay informed. Over the next six weeks, right up until election day, we’re going to highlight and partner up with a number of organizations that can help you stay educated about issues that matter most. We’ll put a spotlight on some of our old favorites for educational resources, like @everytown for sensible gun laws and Fight for the Future (@fight4future) for net neutrality. You can also look forward to hearing more from:

  • Women — There are more women running for office in 2018 than there has ever been in U.S. history. Huffington Post and and MAKERS (@makerswomen) will be interviewing some of these incumbents and newcomers.
  • Headcount — Headcount (@thefutureisvoting) stages voter registration drives at concerts and runs programs that translate the power of music into real action. Their goal? Change the culture of voting to turn every election—local, state, and federal—into an event worth celebrating. It shouldn’t feel like a chore.
  • When We All Vote — @whenweallvote is a new national, nonpartisan, not-for-profit that promises to spark new conversation around the responsibilities we all share in shaping the promise of our democracy.  Namely, the responsibility of registering and voting.
  • #VoteTogether — #VoteTogether offers grants of $2,500 to local organizers to hold and promote nonpartisan block parties near polling places. This year Tumblr will be the financial sponsor and partner of two #VoteTogether events.
    • 10/25 — Black Girls Vote + Tumblr present: #VoteTogether in Baltimore. BGV focuses on organizing Black women across the country to participate in local, state and national elections. Tumblr will be supporting BGV for an all-day event led by 50 of their student leaders from Morgan State University.  We will then lead a march to the polls followed by a #VoteTogether block party with announcements of scholarships for some of the incredible students.
    • 10/27 —  Equity Alliance + Tumblr present: #VoteTogether in Nashville. This year will be Equity Alliance’s third #VotingIsLit celebration. EA is planning on hosting a Halloween-themed and family friendly event in the Antioch neighborhood of Nashville, and we want to see you there. The spookiest costume? A person who forgot to register to vote by September 26, National Voter Registration Day.

Be on the lookout for more information on these events in the coming weeks! We want you there.

Phew. That was a lot. We know. But this is important stuff. The past few years may have felt particularly exhausting to you. You’re not alone. Take care of yourselves however you can, and remember that you and your vote matter. Let your voice be heard.

And one more time, for good measure:

National Voter Registration Day is on September 26.

Something I drew for this year! I’m going to reblog this every two weeks until November because I really do think that this is important.

Here’s a reminder again! Also, because of the supreme court ruling along party lines to uphold voter registration purges in Ohio, take this also as a reminder to check your registration status

This twitter thread links to how to check your registration in every state!

After this week, I don’t think I can overstate how incredibly important it is to vote this November. There are primaries in several states all the way up through September, so look out for those, too!

Check your registration, check your needed ID, look into voting by mail or voting if you’re overseas!

call me the fucking ~internet police~ BUT I DIDN’T KNOW UNTIL TODAY THAT THERE’S LITERALLY A COMMUNITY OF “PEDOPHILE POSITIVITY” ON THIS HELLSITE

THERE ARE PEOPLE OPENLY ADMITTING THAT THEY ARE ATTRACTED TO CHILDREN/CONSUMING CHILD PORN ON THIS WEBSITE!?!??! THERE’S 13 YEAR OLDS ON HERE!!!

so my dudes, how to flag “maps” (minor attracted people aka pedophiles)

1. click “flag this blog”

2. click “this violates tumblr’s community guildlines”

3. click “someone is at risk of harm”

4. click “harm to minors”

5. type “pedophile” in the box

THIS IS GOOD AND ALL BUT PLEASE IF THEY HAVE ACTUAL CP PLEASE REPORT IT TO FBI TIPS,

If it’s clear they have broken laws (they post/talk about using child porn, admit to things they’ve done with minors, etc), go fill out a form here ( https://tips.fbi.gov ) to make the FBI aware and bring this filth to justice. Every single one. And if there’s no proof of criminal offense, then go on and flag them, at least then they aren’t here to prey on children on the internet.

Hi guys I recently had a run in with a pedophile who was posting child pornography, please don’t call the police there’s not a whole lot they can do in situations of tracking unless it’s in your home state! And they don’t have a department that deals with blogs.

Instead call 1-800-843-5678 or fill out a form for cybertipline.com , they reach out within the same day and deal with these assholes all the time. They will contact you if they need more assistance or if they’ve resolved it! The police department redirected me to the hotline and will do so in every situation unless it’s local. Stay safe!

WHAT THE FUCK EW????????
